Rapid Book Review: God's Smuggler

Who wrote it?
Brother Andrew; a Bible smuggling, VW Beetle driving, Communism sabotaging Dutchman.

What's it about?
The insane story of his mission to get the Word of God into the hands of believers behind the Iron Curtain.

Why did you read it?
It's a bit of a classic that I felt slightly embarrassed I'd not read before.

How hard it is?
About 300 pages, pretty easy to read.

Worth reading?
The first half is the story of his conversion and and subsequent call to mission which is highly inspirational - the second half gets a bit samey. If you're like me and typically get half way through a book and then grind to a halt, then this book is perfect for you.

Did you learn anything?
I need to dream bigger and rely on God more. Also to treasure the scriptures more dearly.

I'd give it 4 out of 5

Clean hands

David asks in despair:
"Who may ascend the hill of the Lord? Who may stand in His holy place?
He who has clean hands and a pure heart." - Psalm 24:3-4
As unclean and impure sinners, we can't simply saunter into the manifest presence of the perfect creator God of the universe... we require cleansing first.

For an imperfect picture of why this is necessary (and how impossible it is for us to do ourselves), check out Bobby Moore (at 1:50:27) realising his uncleanness as he ascends into the presence of the Queen:

Thank God this Easter that Jesus died so that we might be cleansed, and therefore be able to enter God's presence.
